Biography
Biography
Baron Guy de Rothschild (1909–2007) served as an officer in 1940, escaped from Dunkirk, and joined General de Gaulle's Free French forces after surviving a U-boat torpedo attack in the Atlantic.
After WWII, he reclaimed and modernized the Paris bank, transforming it into the deposit bank Banque Rothschild. When Socialist President François Mitterrand nationalized the bank in 1981, Guy famously wrote an editorial in Le Figaro entitled 'A Jew under Pétain, a Pariah under Mitterrand' before moving briefly to New York.
