House of Black Family Tree

The Black family tapestry at 12 Grimmauld Place contains charred burn holes where family members who disgraced the family's extreme pure-blood ideology were blasted off with a wand by family matriarchs like Walburga Black. Members were disowned for marrying Muggles or Muggle-borns (such as Andromeda Black and Iola Black), marrying 'blood traitors' (Cedrella Black), being born a Squib (Marius Black), championing Muggle rights (Phineas Black), defying family tradition and running away (Sirius Black III), or aiding disowned relatives financially (Alphard Black).

Sirius Black and Bellatrix Lestrange (née Black) are first cousins; their fathers, Orion Black and Cygnus Black (III), were brothers. Bellatrix has two sisters: Andromeda Tonks and Narcissa Malfoy. Because Narcissa is the mother of Draco Malfoy, Sirius Black is Draco Malfoy's first cousin once removed, and Bellatrix is Draco's maternal aunt.

Arthur Weasley's mother was Cedrella Black (daughter of Arcturus Black II), who was blasted off the tapestry for marrying the 'blood traitor' Septimus Weasley. This makes Arthur Weasley a first cousin once removed to Sirius Black III, and Arthur's children (Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny) second cousins to Sirius Black.

Dorea Black (daughter of Cygnus Black II) married Charlus Potter and had one son, creating a direct marital connection between House Black and House Potter. Additionally, Sirius Black was chosen by James and Lily Potter as Harry's godfather. Later, the marriage of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley united the Potter line with Cedrella Black's descendants.

Delphini (known as Delphi or The Augurey) is the secret illegitimate daughter conceived by Lord Voldemort (Tom Marvolo Riddle) and his most devoted follower, Bellatrix Lestrange (née Black), born at Malfoy Manor prior to the Battle of Hogwarts, as revealed in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

'Toujours Pur' is French for 'Always Pure.' It reflects the family's obsession with pure-blood status, leading them to intermarry extensively with other Sacred Twenty-Eight pure-blood lineages, as well as practicing cousin marriages (such as the union between second cousins Orion Black and Walburga Black).

While the patrilineal line bearing the Black surname died out with Sirius Black III and his brother Regulus Arcturus Black II, the genetic bloodline of the House of Black survives and thrives through several prominent matrilineal branches: the Malfoys (Draco and Scorpius), the Tonks/Lupins (Teddy Lupin), the Weasleys (Bill, Charlie, Percy, George, Ron, Ginny and their children), and the Potters (James Sirius, Albus Severus, and Lily Luna).
